I'm a sushi fanatic and have tried almost every single sushi restaurant in Tampa. Not only are the rolls excellent, but sashimi is always fresh. I've recently become a regular customer of Matoi's and I'm pleased with the food every single time. Korean food is also very tasty and traditional. This is my favorite sushi place in Tampa so far.

went on valentines day with my girlfriend. there was a nice atmosphere, we ended up in a booth in the corner. the food was good, though it cost about as much as other sushi places, so not exactly cheap. the only things we got were sushi rolls, so can't comment on the rest of the food. the special roll (bottom of the menu, description is "surprise") was actually pretty good, though i imagine it changes from time to time. i would go back again, though probably not too often simply because of the price.
Pros: nice atmosphere, good food
Cons: about as expensive as other sushi places.
Could be Better

My wife and I found this place by accident and decided to try it. First time we noticed a dank smell in the place but we were hungry so we ordered. The sushi and rolls are very good, but we've had better elsewhere for the same $$$. We've hit this place a few more times since then and noticed the customer service getting progressively worse. The guy doing all the waiting seems to be more interested in checking out the girls there. Last time we waited and waited for our drinks while others that came in after us got served their drinks - doesn't take much to just fill a glass with coke so it was unacceptable. So we got our drinks and food at the same time. Then we noticed when my wife's order was ready before mine, he set it down unattended on a regular table for a good 8 mins while customers are entering and leaving, walking right past the food. The guy there needs to keep his mind focused on serving the customers and off the chicks. He even ignored us when we called him to ask for our drinks, then he acted like he forgot or that we didnt' order drinks in the first place. The sushi is good, and the place is definitely worth a visit but service sucks.
Pros: Great Sushi and Rolls
Cons: Poor customer service
